Cancer Services

Oncology Specialists:

Being diagnosed with cancer is a stressful and uncertain time for many individuals. Here at our Clinic, we have established a comprehensive Cancer service to help patients navigate a difficult and life changing moment.

Established by Dr Sara Yeoh and Dr Yang Wang, we provide care for women living with gynecological cancer. Our aim is to provide a personalized, empathetic and supportive approach to women and their families who face an uncertain diagnosis. Our expertise extends to:

  • Investigating abnormal symptoms or findings that may be present on ultrasound or CT scans
  • Excluding or diagnosing cancer
  • Provision of counselling
  • Cancer surgery
  • Initiating and managing anti-cancer therapies for patients
  • Arranging for radiotherapy treatment
  • Follow up care

Cancer treatment requires a multi-disciplinary team approach, and we work closely with other specialists and allied health to provide individualised care. They include:

  • Gynae Oncologist – provide surgical management for cancer
  • Medical Oncologist – provide systemic treatment for the management for cancer
  • Radiation Oncologist – provide radiotherapy for cancer
  • Other surgical specialists including colorectal surgeons (bowel surgery) and urologists (bladder surgery)
  • Medical physicians – provide care in optimising long term health issues
  • Pain management specialists
  • Palliative care specialists
  • Psychologists
  • Physiotherapists

Both hold public appointments at major teaching hospitals. Dr Yeoh works at Mercy Hospital for Women and Eastern Health. Dr Wang works at Eastern Health, Alexandra District Health and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. They are both active participants in Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDT) regularly with other colleagues to discuss complex cases in cancer management.

Dr Yeoh and Dr Wang bring different expertise in cancer management.

Dr Yeoh is a Gynecological Oncologist. Her expertise is in the surgical treatment of women with proven or suspected gynecological cancer. In her work, she manages a wide range of issues affecting women including:

  • Gynecological cancers – e.g. ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulval cancer
  • Suspected gynecological malignancy
  • Women at high risk of developing gynecological cancers – e.g. BRCA mutation, Lynch syndrome
  • Pre-cancerous conditions and abnormal cervical screening tests, including colposcopy
  • Complex gynecological conditions requiring surgical management, such as ovarian cysts and uterine masses

She has developed expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgery (i.e. keyhole surgery) where appropriate. This allows for faster recovery following surgery.

She operates privately at Knox Private Hospital and Epworth Eastern Hospital.

Dr Wang is a Medical Oncologist. He has expertise in the use of chemotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapy for managing cancer. The use of systemic anti-cancer treatment around the time of surgery is aimed at reducing the size of cancer prior to surgery as well as reducing the risk of relapse in the post-operative setting.

Apart from treating gynecological cancer, Dr Wang also has subspecialty interests in other cancer types including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Genitourinary cancer
  • Skin cancer especially melanoma

He is also available to help patients affected by these other cancers. This service is thus also open to all other such patients requiring his care.

He practices privately at the Epworth Eastern and Ringwood Private Hospital.

Together, we also provide:

  • Counselling for women at high risk of cancer
  • Management of genetic conditions that have a high risk of gynecological cancer like BRCA and Lynch syndrome

In working together, we provide a seamless experience for women. Cancer management is complex and the road for many patients can be daunting and difficult. Our aim is to make the journey as easy as possible and to help patients and their families navigate it with expertise, support and compassion.
